Tongam Rina, Scribe from Arunachal Pradesh shot in Itanagar

Tongam Rina, an associate editor of Arunachal Times, a news paper published from Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh was shot at by unidentified gunman while she was entering her Arunachal Times office at Sector-E area in Itanagr around 6pm when the shooters, who were waiting for her there, fired at her.

The attackers fled after the attack. Rina was rushed to Ram Krishna Mission Hospital at Itanagar critical condition. Hospital sources said her intestines and backbone have been damaged in the attack. She was operated last night and said to be stable now.

Arunachal Chief Minister Nabam Tuki visited her in the hospital. It may be mentioned that Arunachal Times is owned by Gegong Apang who was first chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh when it was made a full fledged state in 1987.

The Arunachal Press Club and the Arunachal Pradesh Union for Working Journalists have condemned the attack and called a meeting of all journalists in Itanagar on Monday to decide on the future course of action.
