Arunachal Pradesh likely to join Railway map of India

With both state governments, Assam and Arunachal PRadesh, giving clearance for land acquisition for railway line from Harmuti railway station in Lakhimpur district to Nahar Lagun in Papum Pare district of Arunachal Pradesh. The distance between Harmuti and Nahar Lagun is 9KM and is 7KM away from Arunachal Pradesh capital Itanagar.

It may be mentioned that, the gauge conversion work from existing meter gauge broad gauge from Rangiya to MurkongSelek is in full swing and likely to be completed by December 2013.

Presently, Arunachal Pradesh is connected to railway map of India by mere 1.26KM at Bhalukpung in West Kameng district from Balipara, which is again on Rangiya-Murkonselek railway line, under gauge conversion.

A new line from Harmuti to Itanagar was sanctioned in 1996-97 but the project was put on hold following a request of the Arunachal Pradesh State govt. Finally, the State govt approved the alignment from Harmuti to Itanagar in October 2006 and consented to get the line terminated at Naharlagun.

We hope, with this train connectivity with rest of the country through BG line, Arunachal Pradesh would be easily accessible.

Presently, anyone willing to visit Arunachal Pradesh requires ILP ( Inner Line Permit) which can be obtained easily at various Arunachal Bhawan present in major cities through out India.
