New Year 2011 wish from North East India Blog

We wish everyone a very Happy New Year 2011 and hope this year brings peace, harmony and development to North East India.

The last few days have been quite eventful and it may even become turning point of events to unfold in next new months in Assam with repercussions in other states of North East India too! Release of Arabinda Rajkhowa and news of imminent handing of Anup Chetia from Bangladesh are quite significant development!

With release of Arabinda Rajkhowa and the opinions by various people, netizens, intellectuals as well as media people are quite interesting and are dominating everywhere!

There were also some announcements from Government of Assam which can be thought as New Years sops to people of Assam! For example, Himanta Biswa Sarma announced salary hike for employees of his health department! State government cabinet also approved new bridge on Brahmaputra Dhubri-Phulbari! But then since announcements are done ahead of scheduled election, the implementation is doubtful and in case of defeat by Congress, these projects may be put on lowest priority by the next government!

With release of Arabinda Rajkhowa, most probably, the talks would begin now and this could be seen as god achievement by ruling Congress government. There are many people who are voicing against release of Arabinda Rajkhowa and futility of holding any discussion with ULFA and they are same people who are supporting hegemony of the state. Growth of such voice are indicative that many people are now opposing any voice of dissent and any increase of such population will be very harmful to the democracy in India and we might end up having another emergency as in 1975 soon.

Finally, we wish everyone very happy new year 2011!
