North East Indian Champion lifter Renu Chanu insulted by CWG organisers

Renu Bala Chanu, champion lifter from North Eastern State, Manipur, had to arrange her own transport, an auto rickshaw to go back to games village after winning gold medal for India in the ongoing Commonwealth Games in New Delhi on 6th October 2010.

She waited for four hours at the competition venue patiently for any vehicle to be transported her back to games village. But, after such a long wait, CWG officials did not show any urgency or sympathetic attitude towards her to provide any vehicle.

It was especially painful an experience for Renu as she had worked very hard to get to this feat and her post-match reaction before the oragnisers’ bungle tells you a tale.

‘I trained three times in a day for this gold. I trained during nights and never bothered about my sleep. It means a lot to me. Last time I had lifted very less and still won the gold. My aim was to lift as much as I can this time.’

This is the first incidence that some champion sportsperson has been treated shabbily by CWG. Organising Committee (OC). CWG OC is also accused of insulting legendary athlete P T Usha who was not even invited to attend the opening ceremony.

It is very sad to see gold medal winner using an auto rickshaw to come back after winning a gold medal for the country!
