Bomb Blast in Tura : GNLA suspected

A crude bomb was lobbed from a moving vehicle to a bakery shop in Tura, in Meghalaya’s West Garo Hills district which resulted in injury to seven people. The explosion took place at 6:45AM and state Police has sounded red alert in Meghalaya.

Though no militant group of North East India has claimed the responsibility for the bomb explosion, but Meghalaya Police suspects that Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), a rebel group operating in the region.
The injured are being treated in Tura government hospital and three are said be released after first aid.

Recently, state police has launched a crack down on GNLA which resulted in surrender of few its top leaders. It may be mentioned that GNLA is headed by Meghalaya Police deserter DSP ( Deputy Superintendent of Police) Champion R Sangma. They are now fighting for sovereign Garoland in western Meghalaya.

GNLA has links with outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom ( ULFA ), NSCN (IM) of Nagaland and National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) in Assam.
