In whole of North East India, specially in Assam, calling for ‘Bandh’ in protest against anything and everything is the most widely used tool. It is almost a routine to face ‘Bandh’ in either in the whole state, few districts, sub-division in North East India.
Influential organisations like AASU ( All Assam Student Union), ULFA ( United Liberation Front of Asom) etc. need to just announce about the ‘Bandh’, life almost comes to standstill in Assam! Other organisations need to resort to various methods for enforcing a ‘Bandh’.
Few of the methods used for enforcing bandhs are :-
1. Burning Tyre on roads
2. Bomb blast on Bridges/Flyovers
3. Sleeping by human on railway tracks
4. Blocking roads by felling road side trees
5. Stone pelting at vehicles
Apart from these, few militant groups also resort to indiscriminate firing on gatherings during Bandh period. And recently, the latest method used is “Acid Attack on bus”! As per reports, All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA) supporters have hurled an Acid Bomb to enforce their Bandh in BTC ( Bodoland Territorial Council) area! So, this is the latest addition to enforcing ‘Bandh’ in Assam.
