Political crisis seems to be brewing in Manipur, quite similar to Arunachal Pradesh where CM was dislodged by rebel MLAs resulting in new CM and government. In manipur, at least 25 MLAs have rebelled against CM Ibobi Singh The grievance by many MLAs is that they were assured of ministerial berth when Iboboi Singh first took office in 2012 when Congress won record 42 seats out of 60 seats in Manipur State Assembly.
Iboboi Singh has been CM for 14 years and Manipur will go to polls in February, 2017 which is less than a year now. Many rebel MLAs feel that they should be given a chance to become ministers. Many of the rebel MLAs went to meet AICC president Sonia gandhi and VP Rahul Gandhi.
Insiders say that many Meitei MLAs are not happy with Deputy CM and Manipur Congress President, Gaighangam, who is of Naga ethnicity and a tribaland want his ouster. But this seems to be quite difficult.
BSaid State BJP president Thounaojam Chaoba: “We have a long list of the Congress members who are seeking admission to the party. We may come out with the detailed list soon.” Ibobi Singh has been in power for 14 long years, and Congress dissidents say the wind in the State now favours the BJP.
It would be interesting if Manipur gets a new government like in Arunachal Pradesh!
