Himanta Biswa Sharma joins BJP in Assam

Senior Congress leader and hugely popular Congress Leader Himanta Biswa Sharma has joined BJP today in New Delhi and has updated his Facebook page. “following massive calls over the past months from people across Assam hailing from all communities, will be formally joining the BJP ( Bharatiya Janata Party) for A Resurgent Assam and Northeast under the vibrant leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji.
Urging all of you here to join hands for a Resurgent Assam and Northeast. (Statement to follow)” It may be mentioned that, he has resigned from Congress Government in Assam last year after differences with CM Tarun Gogoi.

He has also sent his official resignation letter to AICC.
BJP Leader Prodyut Bora resigned from BJP protesting against entry of Himanta Biswa Sharma few months ago and formed his own political party, LDP in Assam.

It would be very interesting how other so called supporters of Himanta Biswa Sharma, many young Congress MLAs would move next. Either they would also join BJP or remain with Congress would be interesting.

Congress has 78 MLA in the current assembly and the next election in Assam is likely before April in 2016.

Many opine that, it would benefit BJP in Assam and would be big loss for Congress in Assam
