Manipur Assembly has urged the centre to to extend the the Bengal EasternFrontier Regulation 1873 with necessary changes to the State to pave way for implementation of ILP ( Inner Line Permit) system in Manipur. ILP is now implemented in Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland.
Dr I Ibohalbi Singh, Opposition leader of All India Trinamool Congress moved a private member’s motion on the issue in the assembly house. The State Cabinet had earlier adopted the resolution in its meeting late last night.
Earlier, opposition members led by Dr I Ibohalbi walked out of the Assembly when the Speaker Th Lokeshwar announced the passing of the Manipur Parliamentary Secretary (appointment, salary and allowances and Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill, 2012 in the House.
In ILP, one has to take permission to visit the state which is readily available normally through resident commissioners in Delhi in respective state guest houses. ILP is being demanded majorly to counter threat of illegal immigrants.
