ULFA is trying to bomb Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Power Project

ULFA is planning to plant bomb and try to sabotage Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Power Project ( LSHELP) at Gerukamukh in Dhemaji district of Assam, according to intelligence sources.

Dhemaji superintendent of police P Kar said that a joint team of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland police and army personnel was jointly patrolling the area which is bordered by the two neighbouring states.

A group of ULFA militants have sneaked into the Gugamukh area and planning to plant bombs in critical areas of the project under National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC).

Recently, anti-dam construction has become an emotive issue in Assam, specially for the people living downstream to the dam constructions sites. KMSS Leader Akhil Gogoi has been spearheading the agitation against dams which is gaining popularity and getting support from many NGOs as well as social activists.

So, most probably, ULFA ( United Liberation Front of Asom) may be trying to disrupt the dam construction in order to earn public sympathy by bombing the dam construction site.
