The NSCN (K) head of Tirap District in Arunachal Pradesh, ‘Brigadier’ Chipu Menon-Khunwang was found killed by some blunt object on near Mon town gate Thursday afternoon on 17 March 2011. Chipu Menon-Khunwang, allegedly a RAW agent, was the son of late KD Menon, an officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), and the nephew of Congress leader and ex-minister TL Rajkumar.
With Menon’s death, the NSCN (K) could be a much weakened force in Arunachal Pradesh; his death is bound to have operational implications on the Arunachal Naga Liberation Front (ANLF).
Sources disclosed that Menon was summoned by higher-ups from Tirap (Arunachal) to Mon in Nagaland to sort out issues related to organizational management which included disciplinary and financial matters.
“Earlier on a couple of occasions, Menon was warned to abide by the organizational discipline; however, he did not pay any heed,” informed a source which strongly hinted that the order to eliminate him might have come from the high command.
