Binayak Sen demands repeal of AFSPA

Binayak Sen, the controversial doctor cum civil rights activist has demanded repeal of Armed Forces Special Power Act – 1958 ( AFSPA) “A large number of human rights organizations have joined hands to oppose the sedition law and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA),” Sen said at a felicitation function in Kalyani in West Bengal.

Binayak Sen was granted bail on 15 April 2011 by the Supreme Court after being sentenced to life imprisonment by Chhattisgarh court on charges of sedition and alleged links with Maoists in central India.

Binayan Sen also recently received the Gwangju prize for Human Rights, South Korea’s most prestigious award for those working on peace, democracy and justice in Asia.

It is good to see now many civil rights activist coming out demanding repeal of AFSPA for which Irom Sharmila has been on hunger strike for more than 10 years now.
