North East Young student wins National Innovation Award

Archana Konwar has been selected for an award in the national-level children’s ‘Ignite 10’ innovation competition conducted by National Innovation Foundation, India, an autonomous institute supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India.

Archana Konwar is class VIII student of Butikor High School in west Dhemaji, now famous as flood capital in the country. She is youngest daughter of journalist Biren Kr Konwar, a resident of Bordalapa gaon.


Archana Konwar has been selected for the award for her innovative idea on ‘crutch with spring shock absorber and audio/light alarm.’ She took inspiration for her innovative work from the ‘Idea Book’ of Gyan Nirmalee Sishu Puthibharal of her native village Bordalapa.

Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India, will give away the awards in the ‘Ignite 10’ award function to be held at RJMCEI, Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad, on 8th Nov 2010, an official letter stated.

This is an encouraging news where a student form most backward district Dhemaji of the state Assam, one of the most backward area in the country, known to be home of many insurgents, winning a prestigious innovation award! Given a chance, students from North East India are capable of innovation just like any other students in the world.

    This is an encouraging news where a student form most backward district Dhemaji of the state Assam, one of the most backward area in the country, known to be home of many insurgents, winning a prestigious innovation award!
