It has also criticised government for its statement on the mega dams in the State Assembly yesterday, the students’ body today said that bringing in more experts on the mega dam issue, would not change the facts that are scientifically correct. Chief Minister of Assam, Tarun Gogoi has categorically told Assembly that, Assam government is not against big dams.

Immediately after Gogoi’s statement, one Youth Congress leader in Assam with tweeted that ‘Opposing big dam might be a Chinese conspiracy’!

“We are not against development and power generation. But this should not be done at the cost of the lives of the common people. The government can take recourse to the micro-hydel projects, instead of the mega dam ones, for power generation,” Samujjal Bhattacharya, adviser to AASU said.

Its a shame…let there be an open debate face to face between an AASU office bearer and an expert on Dams and then another AASU office bearer and an economist….
    1. ‘Can there be safe dams?’
2.Adverse economic impact of Dams on Assam.

Can we hope to see this on a national news channel very soon…hope some office bearer of AASU will take this proposal forward…
