Guwahati City likely to get a Ropeway soon

Guwahati City, gateway to North East India may soon get a rope way over mighty Brahmaputra soon as Environment Ministry has given the green signal to the ambitious 1,820-meter long aerial rope-way on 7th September as per recent reports.

The proposed ropeway is likely to be built with a cost of Rs. 28 crore and is aimed at connecting North Guwahati and South Guwahati via Umananda. Currently, one can one can cross Brahmaputra either by ferry or on road over Saraighat Bridge traversing a long distance.

An Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) under the Environment Ministry at a recent meeting cleared the project considering its importance as well noting that no tree cutting is required for the project while safety norms are proposed as per international standard.

GMDA which is portfolio held by Himanta Biswa Sarma, one of the most influential cabinet ministers in government of Assam, is the proponent of the Guwahati Ropeway and opines that it will help develop North Guwahati as well as increase tourism.

And we surely agree!
