Bhuban Pegu, an independent MLA from Jonai, one of the most backward sub division of Assam, has alleged that News Live, a TV channel owned by a minister, ( an obvious reference to Himanta Biswa Sharma) has started campaign to tarnish his image.
It may be mentioned that, the rivalry between the two ex-General secretary of prestigious Cotton College, Guwahati, goes back 1992 when Himanta Biswa Sharma and Bhuban Pegu were pitted against each other. At that time, Bhuban Pegu won landslide against Himanta Biswa Sharma, but in real life political life, Himanta Biswa Sharma has left Bhuban Pegu far behind.
The MLA said in a press statement here that in a bid to silence him, a particular TV channel has been trying to tarnish his image by dragging his name into a scandal involving public money worth Rs 24 crore.
The MLA said that since he has been vociferous against the failures and corruption of the present State Government, the TV channel owned by a Minister has now been trying to vilify him in order to silence his voice of dissent.
He dared the Government to institute an enquiry against his alleged involvement in the cases of embezzlement of public money through a High Court Judge, or else, he warned, he would move the court against the TV channel with a libel suit.
