However, the final decision on the matter was left to the party’s general house, which is the supreme authority on such issues, as per the party’s constitution. Moreover, the party’s general house had adopted a resolution during the last Parliamentary elections in favour of the party’s forging an alliance with the saffron party.
Today, the delegates of the party’s district committees vented their ire on the BJP alleging that during the last Parliamentary elections, the votes of the saffron party were not transferred in favour of the AGP candidates, contrary to what the regional party had done remaining loyal to its ally.
It may be mentioned that, AGP had once forged ties with BJP along with seat sharing agreement in which AGP lost the assembly election. In another election, AGP did not have any ties with BJP, then also it lost the election.
This move of snapping ties with BJP is seen as appeasing minority votes ( who always seem to vote en-mass for one candidate) in Assam.
